POSITION TITLE: Dishwasher/Steward

 

FLSA: Non-exempt

 

POSITION REPORTS TO: Sous Chef / Food Services Manager

 

POSITION PURPOSE: To maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen, critically supporting the food service operation at the Strasburg Rail Road.

 

• Maintain a clean Kitchen.

• Sweep and mop all floors and coolers.

• Clean and maintain back dock/dumpster area.

• Clean and properly store all dishes and equipment (i.e. pots, pans, sheet pans, etc.).

• Maintain dishwasher and 3 compartment sinks.

• Remove trash from kitchen/cafe.

• Assist with transporting dishes and removing trash from the railroad dining car.

• Cooperate with other staff as a team.

• Work consistently to provide guests a world-class railroad experience.

• Other duties as required.

• Represents Strasburg Rail Road with professionalism and kindness.

• Adheres to the Strasburg Rail Road dress code, always presenting an appearance that is neat, clean, and professional.

• Pays attention to detail in areas of cleanliness, order accuracy, and adherence to policy and regulations.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Strong work ethic.

• Desire to exceed guest expectations.

• Ability to build relationships with colleagues and guests to ensure a positive work environment and experience.

• Basic knowledge of best practices in food service.

• Ability to remain calm and work well under pressure.

 

• Hours revolve primarily around an established train, event, and café schedules.

• Evening and weekend hours are expected, as well as work on the occasional holiday.

• Mostly indoor work.

• Required uniform including apron and anti-slip footwear.

• Exposure to hazardous situations and conditions that may produce cuts or minor burns.

• Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, such as when working near ovens, griddles, and fryers or dishwasher.

• Sometimes wear personal protective equipment such as gloves.

• Work physically near others.

• Work near contaminants and hazardous equipment.

• Sometimes work in a noisy and distracting environment.

• Duties require frequent standing and walking.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
