POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
POSITION TITLE: Receiver and Food Handler
 
FSLA: Non-exempt
 
POSITION REPORTS TO: Food Services Manager
 
POSITION PURPOSE: To secure safe and high-quality products for the Strasburg Railroad Food and Beverage team and merchandise for the gift shops, ensuring the best product for the best price.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Maintain proper inventory for all outlets.
• Maintain FIFO in coolers, freezers, and storerooms.
• Check incoming expiration dates on receiving of goods.
• Check all refrigeration for proper temperatures and log daily.
• Receive and verify all items ordered are received in good quality and under the proper temperature.
• Source and secure products that the Chef requests in a timely matter.
• Resolve any issues or Guest concerns.
• Engage in casual conversation with Guests.
• Advise Guests of additional opportunities at the Strasburg Railroad and throughout the region and answers any questions.
• Cooperate collaboratively with Team Members.
• Work consistently to provide guests a world-class railroad experience.

• Always presents a friendly and hospitable demeanour.
• Represents Strasburg Railroad with professionalism and kindness.
• Adheres to the Strasburg Railroad dress code, always presenting an appearance that is neat, clean, and consistent with an early 20th Century steam railroad.
• Pays attention to detail in areas of cleanliness, order accuracy, and adherence to policy and regulations.
• Ensures food product is in date and received/held at proper temperature.
• Takes ownership of areas of responsibility and the Guests’ experience.
• Works well with others.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Strong work ethic.
• Exemplary customer service skills.
• Working knowledge of computers is a must.
• Desire to excel in role and contribute to exceeding Guest expectations.
• Ability to build relationships with colleagues and guests to ensure a positive work environment and experience.
• Basic knowledge of best practices in food service, especially time & temperature control.
• ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred.
• Ability to remain calm and work well under pressure.
• High school diploma or GED.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Hours revolve primarily around an established train, event, and café schedules.
• Evening and weekend hours are expected, as well as work on the occasional holiday.
• Combination of indoor and outdoor work.
• Required uniform including apron and anti-slip footwear.
• Exposure to hazardous situations and conditions that may produce cuts or minor burns.
• Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, such as when stocking food into coolers or freezers.
• Sometimes wear personal protective equipment such as gloves.
• Work near contaminants and hazardous equipment.
• Sometimes work in a noisy and distracting environment.
• Occasional work onboard a moving train. Walking between cars is necessary.
• Requires frequent standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
• Frequent lifting and moving of product. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
