Position Reports To: Director of Facilities
Position Purpose: As Facilities Maintenance at Strasburg Rail Road an employee has a unique opportunity to work in a variety of applications including but not limited to maintenance of buildings, operating construction equipment, as well as working on restoration and new building projects. We have a small but very versatile team that is required to maintain and improve the property. We are seeking someone who enjoys working with their hands, likes to learn new things, and has a knowledge of how things work, how to repair and design as needed.
Essential Duties
- Demonstrates expertise in carpentry most importantly…additional experience in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC and, Machine Operation, and Masonry is highly desired.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems using hand tools, power tools.
- Perform regular inspections buildings and machinery to identify and address potential issues.
- Conduct preventive maintenance tasks
- Diagnose needs for older buildings and structures and determine appropriate repair methods.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related electrical and plumbing systems.
- Install new machinery and equipment, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
- Assist in setting up and configuring equipment according to specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements.
- Prepare reports on equipment performance and any issues encountered, including recommendations for improvement.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance tasks.
- Ensure that maintenance activities comply with industry standards and legal requirements.
- Work closely with other maintenance staff, engineers, and production personnel to coordinate activities and address issues.
- Communicate effectively to provide updates on repair status and potential impacts on operations.
- Monitor and manage inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
- Order and procure necessary materials to ensure availability for maintenance tasks.
- Snow removal when necessary.
- Other responsibilities/duties as required.
Qualifications
- General Construction Knowledge
- On-the-job experience diagnosing and repairing building exteriors and interiors.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently when necessary.
- Experience working with wood working tools and heavy equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull more than 50 pounds.
- Organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
- Possession of valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work at heights on ladders, scaffolds, man lifts or on top of rail mounted equipment.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, minimum forty (40) hours per week.
- Weekend and holiday work as required.
- Work special events outside of normal job responsibilities.
- Work is required in all weather conditions at all times of the year.
- Work requires regular social contact with Team Members, customers, and vendors.
- Frequent exposure in a yard setting to soot, dust, and other potentially hazardous substances.
- Frequent need for personal protective equipment.
- Extended periods of walking or standing.
- Frequent lifting more than 50 pounds.
