POSITION REPORTS TO: Head of Entertainment

 

POSITION PURPOSE: The Show Technician is responsible for the daily setup, maintenance, tear-down, and general operation of all technical aspects necessary to facilitate the Strasburg Rail Road’s shows and events. This role plays an integral part in making sure that each performance is audio-amplified and lit to the correct specifications as set by the Head of Entertainment. The Show Technician is responsible for operating and performing maintenance of technical equipment for the Entertainment Department. This is not a supervisory role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Shows up for work on-time.
  • Set-up, operate, and maintain sound and audio equipment, lighting, pyrotechnics, and more, for all shows created and presented by the Strasburg Rail Road.
  • File show reports, based on our main shows and micro-events, directly to the Head of Entertainment.
  • Arrive fifteen minutes prior to all actors to prep, set-up, and clean all performance spaces, prior to the performers’ arrival.
  • Provides performer time calls including 1-hour, 30-minutes, 15-minutes, 10-minutes, 5-minutes, and "places" before every performance.
  • Perform sound or equipment checks as necessary and check the attachment of cables and wires before each performance or event and likewise make sure that they are unplugged at the end of each day.
  • Set-up and tear-down all sound and audio equipment, stanchions, lighting equipment, etc., prior to and after each performance day.
  • Job functions include, but are not limited to, setting up and operating audio-visual equipment including microphones, projectors, speakers, sound and mixing boards, connecting wires and cables, and set-up and maintenance of lighting and pyrotechnic equipment.
  • Report any technical concerns to the Head of Entertainment no more than 24-hours after discovery, to ensure proper communication and allow for timely solutions to any issues that may arise.
  • Maintains a close eye on the safety of the team and our workspaces during their workdays.
  • Serve as a mascot-handler at any time, as deemed necessary or scheduled by the Head of Entertainment.
  • Files weekly show and event reports.
  • Attends all general rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, cover rehearsals, and brush-up rehearsals as scheduled, though they are all subject to change.

  • Complies with the schedule and requirements herein and set forth by the Creative Director of Entertainment and the Strasburg Rail Road in its Employee Handbook.
  • This is a non-supervisory role, attending to only the technical aspects of the Strasburg Rail Road’s shows and events.

  • Shows a willingness and ability to positively adapt to changing needs, priorities, and vision of the department and Head of Entertainment without hesitation.
  • Reports to SRC on time and performs job functions on time and in accordance with the show and event schedules.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism toward others and works well with the team.
  • Presents a clean and professional outward appearance in adherence to the requirements in the Strasburg Rail Road's Employee Handbook.
  • Consistently demonstrates creativity in any situation, shows initiative, and a strong sense of self- motivation.
  • Consistently maintains all show and event equipment and provides a high level of performance in accordance with the essential duties listed above.
  • Maintains an ability to work uninterrupted, Thursday – Sunday, as scheduled, with no time off being granted during our Day Out With Thomas events and the Halloween or holiday seasons.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Part-time, varied shifts depending on operations and show or event schedules.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings for scheduled events.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to assist with physical show and event set-up and tear-down.
