POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
POSITION TITLE: Retail Sales Associate (Clerk)
 
FLSA: Non-Exempt
 
POSITION REPORTS TO: Retail Supervisors, Assistant Retail Manager, and/or
Retail Manager
 
POSITION PURPOSE: The Retail Clerk directly supports the Strasburg Rail Road Company’s multi-faceted mission by executing essential front-line retail tasks in a timely, economical, and professional manner while providing exceptional guest service and displays a positive attitude when interacting with guests and fellow employees.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Greet guests in a pleasant and professional manner as they enter merchandise shops
• Engage with guests in active conversation, inquiring if they need assistance, and assisting guests as needed
• Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make change
• Operate registers, scanners, scales and credit card/debit card terminals
• Collect payments, and bag purchases for guests
• Maintain accurate cash drawer
• Memorize product locations throughout the stores and be able to direct guests or make suggestions
• Handle exchanges and refund requests in a quick, efficient manner by contacting the appropriate supervisor on duty for assistance
• Maintaining shop displays, merchandise, and work areas in a neat, clean, and organized fashion
• Restock merchandise as needed following workflow procedures to ensure maximum efficiency
• Process merchandise (receiving, pricing, labelling, etc.) as directed
• Other duties as required
 
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
• Consistently exhibits a positive, helpful attitude toward guests, including the ability to speak clearly and convey information accurately
• Pays attention to detail, shows a desire to learn, and executes tasks as directed
• Disseminates accurate information about the railroad and its history
• Works well independently as well as with others
• Is self-motivated and demonstrates initiative
• Presents a neat and clean appearance in accordance with the SRC Employee Handbook
• Demonstrates a consistent eagerness to answer questions and always serve guests or potential customers with a positive attitude
• Follows scheduling request policies
• Responds in a timely fashion to supervisor or manager requests (e.g. regarding scheduling)
• Reports to work and meetings on time and adheres to the worker replacement policy
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Self-motivation and a strong work ethic
• Ability to work on his/her own or in teams
• Written and oral communication should be accurate and professional
• Detail-oriented organizational habits and the ability to prioritize tasks
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
• Must be able to walk, bend, twist, and stand for long periods of time
• Punctuality
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Part-time
• Shifts and hours vary based on operating schedules and availability
• Work is primarily indoors including use of iPads/POS equipment as well as some basic office equipment
• Frequent walking and standing for long periods of time.
• Occasional lifting, bending and twisting.
