POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Server
FSLA: Non-exempt
FT or PT: Part-time position

POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of F&B/F&B Operations Manager
POSITION PURPOSE: The Server is responsible for providing excellent food and beverage service to passengers aboard our historic trains, Lefever Hall and Specialty Events during the 2024 Holiday Season. This role includes ensuring guest satisfaction, maintaining a clean and organized dining area, and contributing to the overall ambiance and hospitality of the railroad experience. This position’s timeline would last until December 31, 2024.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Greet Guests boarding the train and serve as a host for the duration of the ride.
Assist in seating Guests and checking tickets as necessary.
Present menus to Guests and make recommendations based on guests’ preferences.
Sell beverages and snacks throughout the passenger car.
Gather, plate, mix, and/or garnish snacks, meals and beverages to serve out to Guests.
Serve purchased menu items to Guests promptly, accurately, and with care.
Accept payment for items purchased, using Point of Sale and returning change as necessary.
Sell souvenir items such as newspapers, glassware, playing cards, or similar non-food items featured aboard the train.
Bartending on our First Class and Dining cars.
Ensure responsible alcohol management, verifying Guests are of legal age and not visibly intoxicated.
Learn fine dining for Elegant Express, how wine and cheese pair together, difference in beers/alcohol we sell.
Provide resolution to any Guest complaints or concerns.
Engage in casual conversation with Guests and give history of the railroad.
Guarantee compliance of safe food handling and cleanliness standards, in accordance with Standard Operating Guidelines.
Follow opening and closing procedures as established in Standard Operating Guidelines.
Restock food, beverage, and supplies.
Support other front-of-house Food & Beverage roles as business requires (e.g. Food Service Cashier).
Collaborate and communicate effectively with other Team Members.
Provide a consistent and quality product in support of a world-class experience for Guests.
Perform other duties as required, contributing to a Team culture.

Represents the Strasburg Rail Road and Café 1832 with professionalism and kindness.
Presents a clean and professional outward appearance in adherence with the requirements of the Employee Handbook.
Maintains a clean, sanitary, and organized work area.
Ensures proper food handling, storage, and applicable reporting.
Works well with others.
Exhibits safe practices around the train.
Shows up to work on time and is punctual for meetings and appointments.
Completes tasks promptly and efficiently.
Demonstrates attentiveness to Guests.
Maintains accuracy in Point of Sale (POS) reconciliation.
Maintains positive attitude, even under pressure.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Exemplary customer service skills.
Strong work ethic.
Attentiveness to detail.
Desire to exceed Guest expectations.
Basic knowledge of best practices in food service.
Ability to remain calm and work well under pressure.
Work experience as a server or wait staff member preferred.
Working knowledge of basic Point of Sale (POS) operation and cash handling.
ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred.
Server/Seller RAMP certification from PLCB preferred.
Bartending experience a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Part-time hourly, not to exceed 29 hours a week, plus tips. Varied shifts depending on operating, event, and train schedules.
Day, evening, holiday, and weekend hours are expected.
Work during special events is required i.e. Christmas season, etc, which may be outside normal job responsibilities.
Work is predominantly onboard a moving train. Walking between cars is necessary.
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Required uniform, including anti-slip footwear.
Work requires frequent walking and/or standing.
Work requires social contact with Team Members, Guests, and/or third-party vendors.
Occasional exposure to very hot or very cold temperatures.
Exposure to hazardous situations and conditions that may produce cuts or minor burns.
Frequent work in a noisy, distracting, and fast-paced environment.
Regular work with and around alcoholic beverages or ingredients.
Occasional need for personal protective equipment (PPE).
Occasional exposure to hazardous situations and contaminants.
Two-way radio communication is used between train crew members, and from the train to the Café.
Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
